Accident and Emergency

Overview

Emergencies and accidents are an inevitable part of our daily lives. At AYKAI Hospital’s Emergency Department, our team of physicians is tasked with the critical responsibility of managing patients with undifferentiated conditions. This involves:

  • Asking the right questions
  • Gathering comprehensive historical data
  • Utilizing precise physical examination skills
  • Ordering and interpreting appropriate lab and radiographic tests

Our ultimate goal is to perform timely and efficient maneuvers while delivering optimal treatment to improve patient outcomes. We aim to avoid potential pitfalls, always mindful of the disasters that may be looming.

Key Procedures and Capabilities

Urological Emergencies

A urological emergency is a critical condition affecting the urinary tract or male reproductive organs that requires immediate medical intervention. Common examples include:

Acute Urinary Retention (AUR): A sudden inability to urinate, often with severe lower abdominal pain, caused by bladder or urethral blockage or nerve signal disruption.

Testicular Torsion: Twisting of the spermatic cord, risking testicular ischemia. Immediate surgery is essential to save the testis.

Paraphimosis: Trapping of the foreskin behind the glans, leading to swelling and potential arterial compromise.

Priapism: Painful, prolonged erection lasting over four hours, often unrelated to arousal.

Gynecological Emergencies

These conditions require immediate attention to prevent serious complications. Examples include:

Ovarian Torsion: Painful twisting of an ovary, cutting off blood supply. Immediate surgery is necessary.

Miscarriage: Heavy bleeding or infected tissue during pregnancy.

Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID): Infections in the upper genital tract, often caused by STDs.

Eclampsia: Seizures or coma due to high blood pressure in pregnancy (preeclampsia).

Abruptio Placentae: Placenta separation causing significant bleeding.

Critical surgical situations include:

• Trauma to vital areas like the head, chest, or abdomen.

• Severe burns.
